Patrol sans Petrol

On a recent visit to the City Beautiful, I saw that the Chandigarh police has acquired this new patrol car. I do not know if it can help them catch many crooks, as this battery-powered vehicle, called the Reva, can not go very far on a single recharge or go very fast (range: 80 kilometres, top speed: 70 kilometres per hour, approximately). To me, it appears to be more of a toy-car than anything else.

It probably a Golf Cart modification. Over here such vehicles are used by security officers/guard to secure a large area such as shopping malls, huge parking lots, a fair or any special event grounds. This fecilitaes the security companies to employ fewer people at a site as well as provide humane conditions for the workers by saving their leg work. But giving a cop a cart like this I believe is degrading him. It is like giving a cop a LUNA instead of his motorbike. On the other hand if a constable who rides a bike (I mean bicycle) is given this cart, it will make his chest pumped out with prestige… hehe…

Reva can be used for duties that are normally prformed by foot petroling. Nice addition to police inventry.

@Sifar: It could very well be a modified golf cart, though the motor appears to be a tad more powerful than that. It seems like it has been purchased more because the administration wants to project an ‘energy-efficient’ and ‘environment-friendly’ image than anything else, leaving the police to figure out possible uses.

@Cyberkitty: The car’s been around for a while now and I’ve several on the road before I came across this one.

@Shirazi Sa’ab: I agree with you and Sifar that this appears to be the best possible use that the police can make of it.

I have seen Reva most in bangalore (don’t know why) but it is interesting to know that Chandigarh police has it now. Didn’t you ask one of the guys what they want to use it for?

There were no police personnel anywhere near the car, whom I could ask anything.

Lolz it really Look like a toy car — But I’m sure it must be helpful in patrolling (not for catching major criminals though) but few minors can be tried … interesting :>
